The Art Nouveau Villa Schöngarten in Focus
Family home, specialist clinic for psychotherapy, staff residence: The more than 100-year history of the Schöngarten Art Nouveau villa is filled with fascinating events. Perhaps that’s why so many different guests feel so at home in these walls, each for their own unique reasons.
Hotel Schöngarten - A Brief History
The Hotel Schöngarten of today began around 1902 when it was built by Hans Schnell. At the beginning of the 20th century, the architect from Augsburg not only designed significant buildings for industry and commerce but also several villas in southern Bavaria.
Initially, Villa Schöngarten was family-owned. In 1921, the Lindau Psychotherapy Weeks came into play. Dr. Ernst Speer, the founder of this still-important conference, purchased Villa Schöngarten and settled in his adopted home of Lindau. Here, at Schöngartenstraße 15, he established the first German specialist clinic for psychotherapy. After Dr. Speer's death, the ownership of the villa changed several times. Among other uses, it was employed by Lindau companies as a staff residence. In 1986, restaurateur Aribert Hochfeld purchased the villa and converted it into the Hotel Schöngarten we know today.
The Art Nouveau villa has been owned by Family Naim since 2002. After extensive renovations, the current Hotel Schöngarten Garni opened its doors in August 2003. The building continued to develop: in the same year, a large terrace was added, and six years later, the light-filled conservatory. All rooms were renovated from 2016 to 2019, with ongoing updates ever since.
Through these ongoing improvements, Family Naim preserves and enriches both the atmosphere of the Art Nouveau villa and the family-friendly spirit of Hotel Schöngarten.
