The Art Nouveau Villa Schöngarten in focus
Family home, specialist clinic for psychotherapy, staff residence: In retrospect, the more than 100-year history of the Schöngarten Art Nouveau villa is quite eventful. Maybe that is why so many different guests feel extremely comfortable in these walls for very individual reasons.
Today's Hotel Schöngarten began around 1902, when it was built by Hans Schnell. At the beginning of the 20th century, the architect from Augsburg not only created some important buildings for industry and commerce, but also various villas in southern Bavaria.
Initially, the Villa Schöngarten was family-owned. In 1921 the Lindau Psychotherapy Weeks came into play. dr Ernst Speer, the founder of this conference, which is still important today, bought the Villa Schöngarten and settled in his adopted home of Lindau. Right here, at Schöngartenstraße 15, he founded the first German specialist clinic for psychotherapy.
After his death, the owners of the villa changed several times. Among other things, it was used by Lindau companies as a staff house. In 1986 restaurateur Aribert Hochfeld finally bought the house and had it converted into today's Hotel Schöngarten.
The Art Nouveau villa has been owned by the host family Naim since 2002. After extensive renovation, today's Hotel Schöngarten Garni opened its doors in August 2003.
The development of the building continued: in the same year a large terrace was created, and six years later the light-flooded conservatory. All rooms were renovated from 2016 to 2019. Since then, renovations have been carried out again and again until today.
